CS Amina announces arrest of KCSE exam leakage masterminds

Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed on Thursday announced the arrest of two major players suspected to be part of a criminal ring behind the opening of exam packages before the official start time.

CS Amina, in a statement sent to newsrooms, alleged that the trick – known as early exposure – has been in operation for three years, adding that the target is usually the second Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination paper of the day.

She stated that the two “greatest masterminds of the early exposure ring” were hunted down and arrested on Wednesday evening after rigorous investigations.

The suspects who were being held by security officials as well as officers from the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) were set to be arraigned in court later.

“We expect these suspects to face the full force of the law in a manner that will send a perfect warning to evil-minded people that their days are numbered and that all their efforts will come to naught,” said the CS.

“There can never be any mercy against anyone intent on messing up the lives of our innocent children and our collective future.”

She added: “Their game-plan usually is to smuggle all or some of the examination questions, take them to hired goons outside who are expected to the tackle the questions and then smuggle the ‘answers’ back into the examination rooms.”
