CS Amina, TSC mourn teachers killed by terrorists in Wajir

Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed and Teachers Service Commission have mourned two teachers killed by Al Shabaab terrorists in Wajir on Thursday night.

The teachers, Seth Oluoch Odada and Kevin Shari who were non-locals, were ambushed in their houses at Quarsa Primary School by the terrorists. Seth’s wife was also killed in the attack.

“I received with regret news of the death of three teachers following a dawn attack by suspected Al-Shabaab militants at Qarsa Primary School in Wajir County,” said the CS in a statement sent to newsrooms.

“At the Ministry of Education, we established contact and have been in touch with the School administration, security agents and leaders in Wajir County.”

Mohammed termed the attack as “abhorrent” and “barbaric” saying the ministry will ensure teachers are safe.

“The Ministry of Education is alive to this reality and has formulated appropriate measures and guidelines in order to ensure the safety of our learners, teachers from terrorism and other threats,” she added.

“The attack on Qarsa Primary School is an important reminder to us that learning institutions in Kenya, as in other countries across the world, remains a soft target for terrorists.”

The Teachers Service Commission also mourned the teachers hailing them as “committed professionals.”
