CS Anne Waiguru is ‘corrupt’ – Raila Odinga

The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) now wants Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru sacked for allegedly attempting to cover up graft in the National Youth Service (NYS).

CORD leader Raila Odinga, who was speaking during a breakfast with editors, accused Waiguru of knowingly covering up graft in NYS.

He said that Kenya lost millions of shillings through fraudulent deals in the NYS that were orchestrated by several heads.

He reiterated that the name of Waiguru was purposely deleted from the ‘list of shame’ released by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) in March this year.

Odinga, who is also the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, argues that the list originally submitted to President Uhuru Kenyatta is different from what he tabled in Parliament, saying that it was doctored to favour Waiguru.

He further told off Waiguru over demands for an apology that she had sought on grounds that he had defamed her by referring to her as corrupt.

His remarks against Waiguru, he said, if defamatory or not are true and he will defend them in any court of law.

The former Premier said the latest move by Waiguru to suspend junior officials over the alleged fraud at the Devolution Ministry is equal to targeting small fish instead of the big ones.

Waiguru had on last week Friday said that recommendations made after an investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations had called for the prosecution of 21 officials in the ministry over fraud allegations.

She said that nearly Ksh 800 million was lost through fraudulent deals in the NYS.

Mr. Odinga now wants EACC and other state agents to carry out a thorough probe on the NYS saga and prosecutions of those found guilty effected immediately.

He also accused the jubilee government of disobeying court orders in the teachers pay rise demands.
