EACC clears CS Davis Chirchir of Kenya Pipeline graft allegations

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has cleared suspended Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir and the Kenya Power Managing Director Ben Chumo of graft allegations regarding the embezzlement of Ksh 90 million transferred to Kenya power by the Kenya Pipeline Company.

Chirchir and Chuma had been accused of misappropriating the Ksh 90 million through their respective offices.

The Ethics and Anti- Corruption Commission (EACC) had earlier submitted a separate inquiry file against the suspended CS and others to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Keriako Tobiko recommending that the case be terminated for lack of evidence of criminal culpability on allegations of corruptly seeking to influence the award of a tender.

The DPP says he concurred with the anti-graft agency but directed that Mr. Chirchir and Chumo be further probed over the Ksh 90 million allegations.

EACC conducted investigations and re-submitted the file to the DPP with recommendations that the file be closed for lack of evidence of criminal culpability against the two.

The DPP also cleared the National Water Conservation and Pipeline Corporation (NWCPC) Chief Executive Officer Evans Ngibuini of allegations of improper handling of funds in the construction of Muruny/Siyoi dam in West Pokot.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s Chief of Staff Caroli Omondi was cleared over allegations of irregularly acquiring a piece of land by Kenya Commercial Bank for lack of evidence.
