CS Kiunjuri,MP Kega rubbish poll rigging claims

Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri and Kieni legislator Kanini Kega have rubbished allegations by CORD principal Raila Odinga that the Jubilee administration plots to rig the 2017 General Elections.

Speaking at St Paul’s Catholic Church Matanya on Saturday, Kiunjuri said Raila’s statement holds no water, adding that the Opposition chief is in the habit of hurling accusations at the government.

Kieni Mp Kanini Kega advocated for KPMG’s voter list audit process, saying the firm is international and independent. He expressed confidence that the firm would conduct the exercise fairly, and give credible results within 30 days.

Kanini pointed out that the Opposition also took part in requesting an audit of the voter register, with the MP questioning why they have now changed their tune.

Raila has since opposed the appointment of KPMG, saying they were not consulted in the tendering process.

On Friday, Raila and Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi accused the ruling Jubilee administration of colluding with IEBC to rig the August 8, 2017 polls.

The two argue that IEBC is in possession of multiple voter registers, including the one they say was used to rig the 2013 elections and Kenyans need to know the one to be audited.

The Opposition maintains that is a clear sign of planned rigging of the 2017 elections.

In a joint statement read by Mudavadi, the two leaders said that Kenyans are not ready for another sham election whose results are being determined now.

The Opposition leaders further alleged that Jubilee and IEBC have planted individuals to move to court and challenge legitimate processes as a way to rig the elections.

This comes barely a week after electoral body in the country IEBC appointed of KPMG to audit the voter register ahead of the 2017 polls.
