CS Matiang’i appointed Acting Interior CS following Nkaissery’s death

President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed Education Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Fred Matiang’i, as acting CS for Interior and Coordination of National Government following the demise of Joseph Ole Nkaissery.

In his address to the nation at State House, Nairobi, President Kenyatta, who made the announcement after chairing National Security Council meeting, referred to Nkaissery as a great leader and urged Kenyans to mourn in peace.

“I therefore urge Kenyans and leaders form across the political divide to mourn in peace and uphold his singular mission of a peaceful and united Kenya,” said Kenyatta.

The Head of State said that his government took the decision to appoint Dr. Matiang’i in the acting capacity so as to eliminate any vacuum that may arise 30 days to the August 8 general Election.

President Kenyatta further urged Kenyans to stay calm as they await the postmortem of the late Nkaissery to ascertain the cause of death.

While terming the incident as unfortunate, Kenyatta moved to assure Kenyans that the country’s security is top notch and that all agencies continue to execute their mandate as expected.

“Kenya is secure amd those who wish to destabilize Kenya we are strong and ready” said Kenyatta
