CS Matiang’i warns social media users, assures Kenyans of security

Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Fred Matiang’i, has assured Kenyans that the country will remain safe and secure after the country went into polls on Tuesday, August 8.

“You have no reason to worry because our security systems are intact to ensure that every Kenyan is safe and secure during and after the finality of the August 8 General Election,” said Dr. Matiang’i.

Speaking during a press briefing on Wednesday, August 9, Dr. Matiang’i lauded all Kenyans for being calm during the elections, calling upon everybody to maintain peace even after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is expected to make final announcement on the presidential election results.

“Our country is secure and safe. Kenyans continued with their duties during these polls and that is commendable. We will continue to work hard lawfully and constitutionally to protect Kenyans and their properties. Do your activity without being bothered by anything,” said the CS.

Dr. Matiang’i called on Kenyans to be cautious when using social media platforms especially this period as it could create dissatisfaction among Kenyans saying those found misusing the platforms will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

“I ask every Kenyan to reject any incitement to cause chaos or participate in any unlawful criminal activity. Remember to report any suspicious activity to the police. Let us prove to the whole world that we are the beacon of peace, we are known to be,” added Dr. Matiang’i.
