CS urges youth to repay Uwezo Fund loans

The Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Youth and Gender, Sicily Kariuki, has lamented on the low repayment rate of Uwezo Fund in Kwale County.

Speaking during the tour of various youth and women groups’ projects and issuance of Uwezo and Women Enterprise Fund cheques, the CS particularly took issue with Msambweni Constituency, where she said the repayment rate stands at 43%.

Ms Kariuki urged the youth who had benefitted from the loan to repay on time to allow other groups to benefit from the kitty.

“Because this fund was started when Uhuru Kenyatta became the President, people took it as free money and thought they will not repay it. It is not good to mix politics and money,” she noted.

The CS also called on the youth to watch out and avoid being used by politicians as we head to the electioneering period.

She added that the future of the country depends on the youth and they should have positive influence in the community.

She was accompanied by Kwale County Women Representative, Zainab Chidzuga, who said that National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) has gone a long way in uplifting the lives of youths and women in various counties in the country.
