CS Waiguru grilled over NYS scam

Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru has been grilled by Members of the Parliamentary joint committees of Labour and Social Welfare and Finance, Planning and Trade over the controversy surrounding the National Youth Service (NYS) procurement process.

The NYS has in recent weeks been put on the spot over alleged corruption in some of its flagship projects in the country.

A section of leaders from the ruling Jubilee coalition want Waiguru to step aside over corruption allegations at the National Youth Service (NYS).

Led by Konoin Member of Parliament Sammy Koech, the leaders say it is wrong for Waiguru to clean her name over the 826 million shilling NYS funds scam through the media instead of allowing an independent probe.

NYS has in the recent weeks been put on the spot over alleged corruption in tenders.

Waiguru is also expected to shed light on reports concerning alleged power struggles within the leadership of NYS.

National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich also appeared before the committee over the status of the equalization fund which according to MPs has not been utilized in the last two years.

The fiasco stemmed from a letter from the Central Bank of Kenya to the Devolution Ministry questioning hurried payments of hundreds of millions of shillings to private companies through NYS.

However, Waiguru claims to have been the whistle blower in asking the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to probe fraudsters who attempted to steal Ksh 826 million from the youth service.
