CSs hospitalized with cholera symptoms

Two Cabinet Secretaries are among over 70 people hospitalised at different health facilities in Nairobi after they exhibited cholera symptoms.

Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich and his Industrialisation counterpart Adan Mohammed are currently under medication and full-time doctors’ observation at the Nairobi Hospital after they exhibited cholera symptoms, sources at the health facility have revealed.

Also admitted at the Nairobi Hospital is a local television journalist, who was covering a Trade Expo that kicked off Wednesday, July 12 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

The Cabinet Secretaries and other expo delegates are said to have fallen ill after eating at the expo on Wednesday, July 12.

Confirming the incident, Director of Medical Services, Dr. Jack Kioko, said the government is probing on whether the CSs and 60 other delegates are victims of food poisoning or cholera.

He attributed the incident to outsourcing of food in two city hotels.

The Director of Medical Services said that the recent Cholera outbreak in the city is worrying and attributed it to burst sewer and increased food hawking.

He further directed the County Government of Nairobi to crackdown on food hawking dens.
