Dairy farmers want to own KCC

Dairy farmers in Embu have petitioned Parliament for Kenya Co-operative Creameries (KCC) to be reverted back to farmers.

According to KCCDL Vice Secretary Michael Gitonga, a lobby group that addresses the plight of dairy farmers, they are still waiting for the Agriculture Committee to communicate on the process in repossession of KCC.

Gitonga said that the government is yet to address the plight of dairy farmers as it has done with other agricultural sectors such as tea, coffee and miraa farming which have received a boost from the government.

He added that KCC was the most reliable factory for farmers to deliver their produce to, saying that it would be best if its ownership were reverted back to farmers.

He noted that dairy farmers were faced with animal feeds and diseases challenges that they would like the government to address.
