Couple deny burglary at Tharaka Nithi officer’s mansion, freed on Ksh.600k bond

A couple has been accused of breaking into the home of newly appointed Tharaka Nithi county commissioner and stealing from one of the most guarded estates in Embu where all senior officers are housed.

The couple who are said to have stolen electronic appliances in Kaunda estate.

At the time of the incident, the county commissioner was reportedly in Mbeere South with the deputy county commissioner.

Dickson Njuki Njiru and Juliet Kawira Njeru appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Vincent Nyakundi on Friday but they denied the charges.

The couple was on Friday charged with two accounts of intent to steal on the 3rd and 4th of January 2019 at Kaunda estate within Embu county with others not before the court they entered and broke into the house.

The charge sheet also reads that on January 9, 2019 at Gorgon slum in Embu town they jointly and dishonestly retrieved one TV set , knowing or having reason to believe it to be stolen or unlawfully obtained .

They were released on Ksh.60,000 bond with surety of similar amount each and that they be supplied with any documentation the prosecution plan to use in the case.
