Daystar University closed indefinitely

Daystar University has been closed indefinitely after a two-day boycott of classes by students.

In a memo by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Timothy Wachira, the closure of the school started on Friday afternoon.

This comes after students staged protests which paralysed learning on Thursday against what they termed as an unjust administration.

“The Senate has closed the university (both campuses) indefinitely with immediate effect. All undergraudate and Diploma students are instructed to vacate the University with immediate effect,” read the memo.

The VC also said that the student government would be suspended immediately following their refusal to engage in dialogue. “The Senate has also suspended the Student Government with immediate effect.”

The closure of the school does not affect post-graduate programs, as the Vice Chancellor said that post-graduate studies would continue running as normal.

Students from both of the varsity’s Athi River and Nairobi Campuses had walked out of classes on Thursday claiming that the administration was refusing to respond to their grievances amid poor state of facilities and a tuition fee hike.

The students had also called for the resignation of Prof. Wachira.
