DCI boss Kinoti warns corrupt officers will be prosecuted

Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti has put on notice corrupt officers who conspire to cover up or tamper with investigations.

“I’m not the kind who will transfer you from your work station, that means I’m spreading impunity in this country, I will fire and prosecute you,” said the country’s top detective in an exclusive interview with Citizen Digital.

Sources reveal that Mr. Kinoti has started cracking the whip and several officers have been fired.

On Monday, the detective moved more than 400 DCI personnel in mass countrywide transfers saying the changes were normal and aimed at bolstering operations.

Mr. Kinoti, said that his tenure as spokesman for the National Police Service opened his eyes to just how corrupt officials collaborate with people they are supposed to investigate to deny innocent Kenyans justice.

“The days of those complicit in cover ups here at Mazingira house and across the country are numbered,” he added.

An officer, who did not want to be named revealed that many senior officials have been fired and investigations launched.

“When you see officers who thought they were untouchable crying after being found out, then you know that things are bad and there is pressure from above,” said the officer. “The boss calls you into his office and when you see your file on his table, then you know your day has come.”

Having risen through the ranks, Mr. Kinoti says he knows the system “like the back of his hand” promising Kenyans an honest criminal justice system.

“Gone are the days when you heard ‘we shall investigate’ and nothing came out of it,” he added.
