DCI confiscates 12kg of heroin, 500kg of dry khat at JKIA

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have nabbed a heroin drug consignment at the Jomo Kenyatta International University (JKIA) believed to have been destined for Liberia.

The DCI, in confirming the incident, said the heroin consignment which was confiscated last week, weighed 12 kilograms and was found concealed in two radio speakers.

“Heroin weighing approximately 12 kilograms, concealed in two radio speakers & declared as traditional baskets & sandals was last week confiscated by detectives based at #JKIA. The consignment which was destined for Monrovia-Liberia, was delivered for export by a clearing agent,” reported DCI.

The detectives also revealed that they also netted 500 kilograms of dry khat at the national airport destined for Australia and Austria.

“500Kgs of Narcotic ‘Dry Khat’-packed in 52 bags-concealed as Tea Packets, sent by various Exporters and destined to #UnitedStates, #Australia & Austria was intercepted yesterday by @DCI_Kenya Detectives during screening at #JKIA. @KRACare had issued a Seizure Notice on the goods.”
