DCI Kinoti puts on notice foreigners investing crime proceeds in Kenya

Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti on Tuesday fired a warning shot to foreigners who flee into Kenya after committing various crimes in their countries.

DCI Kinoti, speaking during a retreat for prosecutors from East Africa, warned such individuals of dire consequences from action by investigative agencies in the region.

He further stated that the Kenyan government will also partner with other countries to bring to book individuals who steal public funds in the country and invest it in neighboring nations.

“You’ll never steal from another country and live to enjoy the sweat of others when in another country. We’re going to smoke you out as a criminal,” said the DCI.

“Whoever has committed a criminal act in another country will not be tolerated within our country. If you steal from Kenya and go and invest in South Sudan for instance…South Sudan will work with us and you will be brought back.”

Kinoti also said Kenyan investigative agencies would boost their efforts in fighting counterfeit goods saying the government had learnt of local industries smuggling and repackaging counterfeit and expired goods across the borders for local consumption.
