One killed, woman arrested as police rescue kidnapped boy in Thika

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have rescued a five-year-old boy who was reported kidnapped earlier this month in Thika, Kiambu County.

The boy was on Wednesday found in a house in Thika town after a raid by the detectives which left the alleged kidnapper dead and a woman the child was living with arrested.

Confirming the rescue, the DCI said the suspect was shot dead after trying to attack the rescue officers using a machete.

“In the course of the the rescue, the criminal put a spirited fight using crude weapons and with a sharp machete cut a firearm as he lunged to injure one of the rescue police officers, forcing the officers to respond; fatally injuring him,” said the DCI in a tweet.

Two national identity cards bearing different names were also recovered at the scene and the woman said to have been living with the kidnapper is expected to shed more light on the incident.

The boy was abducted after a church service at Word Temple Church in Starehe Estate on Sunday October 7, 2018.

His father recorded a statement at Thika Police Station after the boy’s friend, with whom he had attended church, returned with a note indicating that they had been given 4 hours to part with Ksh.520,000 to secure their son’s  freedom of their son.
