DCI officers rescue colleagues arrested by EACC soliciting Ksh.1M bribe

EACC detectives are hunting down two officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) who escaped after allegedly being caught soliciting a Ksh.1 million bribe from a foreigner on Wednesday evening.

In a statement issued on Wednesday evening, EACC said its officers laid a trap for DCI officers Julius Oguma and Charles Macharia from Kabete Police Station in Kiambu County but the two managed to escape with the help of their colleagues.

According to EACC, the two officers  had been handcuffed but were rescued by their colleagues who arrived at the scene and fired several rounds facilitating their rescue.

“The two suspects are DCI officers  who were arrested by EACC officers and handcuffed but were rescued by their colleagues from Kabete Police Station who fired several rounds of ammunition as warning shots to facilitate the escape of their colleagues,” said EACC in a tweet.

The two DCI officers are said to have escaped with Kshs.100,000 trap money while handcuffed.

“Kabate DCIO is facilitating EACC officers to find the suspects,” added EACC.
