DCI ordered to release Rashid Echesas Mercedes Benz E-350, four other cars

A Kiambu court has directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to release five vehicles belonging to former CS Rashid Echesa.

Among the vehicles to be released include Toyota Lexus, Ford Ranger and a Mercedes Benz E-350.

“The act of detaining property without any support or any law of order of the court with sufficient reasons contravenes the constitution which provides for the right to private property and opportunity to be heard,” Senior Principal Magistrate Stella Atembo ruled.

Further, the court noted that the three vehicles were not part of the search warrants issued by the court for investigations.

Six days ago, a Nairobi court also directed the DCI to hand back to Echesa two pistols and a Range Rover vehicle that were seized from him in February this year.

On March 2 this year, detectives seized five vehicles from Echesa following a complaint made to the DCI Public Complaints Section by a Kisumu resident.

He was alleged to have fraudulently transferred to his possession a Passat KAY 388A, KBZ 009J Toyota LandCruiser V8 and KBN 242N Toyota Mark X in 2016.

Detectives found the following vehicles parked at his home in Karen: Toyota LandCruiser V8 (KCW 289Q ); Mercedes Benz (KCL 350J); Volkswagon Passat (KAY 388A); Ford Ranger (KBP 725B) and Lexus (KBS 388F).

All the vehicles taken for verification by NTSA officers as further investigations into the complainant’s allegations continue,” DCI said on Twitter.
