Dead man returns to Kisii County village

Residents of Monire village in Masaba Sub-County, Kisii County were on Tuesday shocked after a man who was presumed dead and buried about two months ago returned to the village alive and well.

Elders now say a ritual ceremony has to be performed by slaughtering a white she-goat that will be buried in the grave after exhuming the body.

Vincent Oyugi, who lives in Narok County, was reported to have died in a road accident in July after a pick-up car he was traveling in was involved in a road accident at Ewaso Nyiro.

His family went to collect and bury “his body” on the 4th of December 2016.

His mother, Eunice Oyugi, said she was happy to see his son alive after a long traumatizing period of his ‘death’, adding that the whole village was happy and received him.

When Citizen Digital visited the village, Vincent narrated that he learned of his ‘death’ after he visited his brother in a neighboring town in Ewaso Nyiro.

His brother was shocked on seeing him and almost ran away but he informed him that the family had wrongfully buried the body of someone else who they assumed to be him.

Vincent could not hold back tears as he narrated to us his ordeal.
