Death after a funeral: Family mourns loss of Mai-Mahiu 7

A family at Kiamuya village in Mathira is now struggling to come to terms with a fatal accident that killed seven family members.

Speaking to Citizen Digital at their home, a brother of the deceased, Geoffrey Gachanja, said the family had just buried their cousin at Karundas area in Kieni.

Gachanja identified the deceased as his brother Charles Kibira Munyi, his nephew Gerald Munyi and his sister in lawe Gladys Munyi, their daughter Alice Muthoni, two grandsons and one granddaughter.

Gachanja’s wife says she received the sad news yesterday morning, adding that she regrets not warningher deceased relatives against travelling at night.

Munyi’s close friend Julius Kogi recalls how the deceased was jovial during the burial, greeting and hugging people. Kogi said they had planned to meet the following day since Kibira had promised him that he will not travel to Kitale that night.

Five bodies have since been moved from Nakuru Referral Mortuary by a well wisher from Kiambu, and the other two were moved to Molo for burial.

The family is now appealing to the government and well wishers to assist them in preparation of mass burial that will be held on Friday.

The fatal collision occurred at Salgaa area at 2am when a car and a truck collided on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.
