Death toll rises to 14 in Garissa-Mwingi Road accident

The death toll in the Monday morning bus accident at Tula area on Garissa-Mwingi Road has risen to 14 from the initially reported 10.

This is after four more passengers succumbed to their injuries at Garissa Provincial General Hospital.

Tana North Police Commander Tom Okoth said 10 people died on the spot after the bus they were travelling in rammed into a trailer carrying cement that had stalled on the road.

Due to the heavy impact from the collision, the trailer tore into the bus ripping away windows and part of the roof severely injuring the passengers.

According to the Kenya Red Cross, 14 injured passengers were rushed to Garissa Provincial General Hospital with severe injuries.

“Fourteen people with severe injuries evacuated to Garissa Provincial General Hospital by Kenya Red Cross and Garissa County Ambulance after a PSV Bus rammed into a stalled trailer at Tula along Garissa-Nairobi road,” tweeted Kenya Red Cross.
