‘Defeated’ Governors reject poll results, say they are computer manipulated

Outgoing Nairobi Governor, Dr Evans Kidero, was among top political leaders who refused to concede defeat after provisional results indicated that he lost by a large margin to Jubilee candidate and outgoing Nairobi Senator, Mike Mbuvi Sonko.

According to the results from the IEBC portal, Sonko had so far garnered 831,539 votes against Kidero’s 665,782 votes as at 5:45 pm Wednesday, August 9.

In Meru, Governor Peter Munya contested the provisional results that showed him trailing Jubilee’s Kiraitu Murungi, by more than 50,000 votes according to the IEBC portal.

In contesting the results showing Senator Kiraitu Murungi leading the gubernatorial race with 275,623 against his 226,122 votes, the former Council of Governors chairperson claimed that the results are ‘computer generated’ and do not reflect the will of the people on the ground.

“The provisional results are false and computer generated. We are going to join forces with other Kenyans in making sure that democracy is restored in totality,” said Mr. Munya.

Elsewhere in Kisumu, Governor Jack Ranguma also contested the results declaring his competitor, Prof. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o, the winner of the county’s gubernatorial seat.

The results were showing that Senator Anyang’ Nyong’o, who trounced Ranguma in the nominations to clinch the much coveted ODM ticket, was leading with 263,117 votes while Ranguma – who opted to run as an independent candidate – had 148,851 votes.

Like his Meru counterpart, Mr. Ranguma alleged that his competitor colluded with rogue IEBC officials to rig him out of the election process.

Jubilee gubernatorial candidate for Turkana Seat, John Munyes, also contested results that showed Turkana Governor, Josphat Nanok leading in the race.

Munyes argues that Nanok has resorted to fraudulence means in ensuring that he wins the race to cling to power.
