Shock as defilement cases rise in Nakuru, Baringo

Residents of Nakuru and Baringo counties are up in arms over what they term as moral decadence after increased cases of defilement emerge.

Recently, two fathers in Kuresoi south sub-county are said to have impregnated their daughters aged 12 and 13 years and disappeared to the neighbouring Bomet County.

The villagers have demanded that the suspects be apprehended.

According to Kiptagich locational chief Jonathan Kimetto, the accused fathers work in the tea estates in the area.

In Nakuru and Baringo counties there are several court cases involving defilement and despite guilty suspects being handed life sentences, the vice still continues.

Recently at an Eldama Ravine court, Senior Resident Magistrate Judicature Nthuku gave a life sentence to a 40-year-old man found guilty of defiling a nine-year-old girl in Rongai.

While handing the sentence, the Magistrate  said medical evidence showed that Shadrack violated the girl and infected her with gonorrhea.

Elsewhere at a Nakuru court, a 76-year-old man was sentenced to ten years in prison for attempting to defile his granddaughter in Subukia.

Kipngeno arap Bor was accused that on September 24, last year, he dragged the girl into a maize plantation before attempting to defile her but was caught in the act by neighbours who heard the girl screaming.

Koibatek OCPD Agnes Kamau recently reported that a man impregnated a mentally ill girl.

With several other cases going unmentioned, moral decadence in the society has seen such cases not reaching courts.
