Defilement suspect commits suicide in police cell

A 45-year-old defilement suspect was found dead inside a cell at Ukwala police station in Ugenya sub-county after allegedly committing suicide.

Maurice Ong’wen Oduor who was arrested after allegedly defiling his little girl, was found hanging from the ventilation grills inside the police cell.

According to Ugenya OCPD Mr. Willy Simba, the body was discovered by a Police Constable during a routine check.

The suspect who was found hanging with his jacket tied around his neck, had been charged with defilement and incest at Ukwala Law Courts and had been remanded until November 5, 2018 awaiting a mental assessment report.

The body has since been moved to the Ukwala Sub-County hospital mortuary.
