Defunct county council staff being ‘retrenched’

A workers umbrella body in Bomet County has raised alarm over a directive that former employees of defunct local authorities to reapply for their jobs as a ploy to retrench them.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Bomet County Government Workers Union Chair Jessica Cheruto Langat said that the County Government’s directive targeting the over 300 workers is part of a greater scheme to create positions through their retrenchment.

Cheruto said they are being frustrated by the County Government and are being locked out of their workstations in what is becoming a definite maneuver attempting to dismiss the former employees of Sotik Town Council, Bureti Municipal Council and Bomet.

She dismissed the calls as illegal since they are employed staff who are on permanent and pensionable terms.
