Demonstrations against Health PS Muraguri kick off to a slow start

The National Civil Society Congress (NCSC) on Thursday held demonstrations to demand the resignation of Health PS Dr Nicholas Muraguri following the alleged Ksh5.2 billion Afya House health scandal.

Led by NCSC president, Morris Odhiambo, and carrying placards, pig heads and dead rats, the protesters started their demonstration at Milimani before proceeding to the Ministry of Health – Afya House where they were involved in a stand-off with deployed police sent to maintain the peace.

“We are here to make sure we deliver our petition. We are here to stop corruption. We cannot live in a country where some people think that they are above the law. We are here to help the president do his job of fighting corruption and we are starting with the demand for the resignation of PS Muranguri,” said Odhiambo.

Police officers, however, instructed the protestors to stop the protests, which they did but with the promise to continue with the demonstrations till Friday.

Activist Boniface Mwangi is also expected to lead a demonstration against President Uhuru Kenyatta over what he terms as a seemingly resigned nature in handling corruption on Friday.

The protests are expected to kick off at the Freedom’s Corner in Uhuru Park at 10 AM.
