Deputy police boss Grace Kaindi not fired, Nkaissery

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has defended replacement of Deputy Inspector General Grace Kaindi by the General service Unit (GSU) boss Joel Kitili in an acting capacity.

Nkaissery said President Uhuru Kenyatta nominated Kitili, who was chosen by the National Police Service Commission (NPSC), as they failed to find a woman suitable for the post.

Speaking at Harambee House, the Interior CS also refuted reports that Kaindi had been sacked as Deputy IG, saying she had attained the retirement age of 60 years.

Nkaissery said the deputy IG post had been vacant and the police service commission filled it by accepting the proposed replacement by Inspector General Joseph Boinett.

On Tuesday, President Kenyatta nominated Kaindi as an Ambassador of Kenya.

Kaindi, however, will wait for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to redeploy her to her new work station.

“To ensure a smooth transition and continue the ongoing reforms in the National Police Service, I have nominated Mr.  Joel Kitili, as acting Deputy Inspector General, with immediate effect, and until the substantive processing of appointment of the next DIG takes place,” read Kenyatta’s statement.
