Detectives raid Busia home, bust fake currency syndicate

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Busia  on Friday  raided a house at Korinda with the aim of busting a fake currency syndicate.

In the raid, they managed to recover over KSh.3M in fake US dollars and KSh. 93,000 in fake Kenyan currency.

The sleuths also recovered a security stamp bearing names of an International agency.

They also recovered two spray bottles containing an unknown liquid which they suspected was used in the production of the fake currencies.

Four suspects who were arrested in the sting operation and put under lawful custody are; Francis Mutunga, Ben Abungu, Henry Makokha and Robert Wesonga who is the owner of the house.

The suspects will be arraigned in court on Monday and charged for the offence of being in possession of papers resembling bank notes contrary to section 367(a) of the penal code.
