Detectives rescue kidnapped businesswoman hidden inside a water tank in Kayole

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has rescued a Kamukunji-based businesswoman who was reportedly kidnapped on June 15.

The 23-year-old woman was discovered inside a water tank at a shack in Kayole’s Matopeni area, according to a police report obtained by Citizen Digital on Sunday.

According to the detectives, the woman was kidnapped at her clothes stall by a criminal gang who demanded a Ksh. 5 million ransom to release her.

Hafsa, who appeared tortured in a heartbreaking video clip recorded by her kidnappers after her disappearance, begged her family to meet the demands of her tormentors in order for her life to be spared.

“Following an elaborate operation conducted by detectives from Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau and the Special Service Unit, Hafsa was rescued today morning,” the DCI said on Sunday.

The woman, who was visibly shaken and had visible bruises on her face and hands, was rushed to the hospital for medical attention shortly after her rescue.

During the Sunday morning stint, a 24-year-old suspect from the kidnap gang was apprehended and is now assisting police with the investigation.
