Detectives seek 14 days to detain suspect linked to Quivers lounge shooting

A Nairobi court will on Wednesday, July 7 rule on whether police will be given 14 days to detain Dickson Njanja Mararo, the suspect behind the shooting of two police officers and a woman at Quiver’s Lounge along Thika Road.

The accused, who surrendered to police on Monday, was presented before Principal Magistrate Zainab Abdul Tuesday morning, where the prosecution sought more time to complete investigations.

The court was told that the 14 days the authorities are seeking will enable them record statements, retrieve CCTV footages and prepare a cyber-forensic report.

They are also seeking to obtain a report from ballistic examiners, medical reports of the victims and conduct an identification parade for the victims to identify the suspect.

Through his lawyer Cliff Ombeta, Mararo objected the application to have him detained for 14 days.

The accused is alleged to have shot and injured the officers following an altercation over a woman.

The two victims are police constable Lawrence Muturi from Kasarani Police Station and Constable Festus Nzisa. Also injured was a waiter.

The court was told that Festus Musyoka was shot in the neck and is still admitted in hospital in critical condition.

“That after the said shooting the suspect ran away from the scene and had been hiding until yesterday and never reported to any station as required for every licensed firearm holder, ” the court was told.
