Diani Beach to host worlds largest skydiving boogies in December festival

Kwale County is set to host a month-long world’s largest Skydiving Boogies during Diani Beach Festival in December.

The event is a partnership between the Sky Dive Diani and the Diani Beach Festival (DFB).

The festival which is set to kick off on December 9, 2017 to January 2, 2018, will bring together over 500 guests from over 32 countries.

According to the organizers, they chose Diani beach for its spectacular attractiveness and having been voted the best beach destination in Africa four years in a row by Africal Travels Awards.

“The aim of the Diani Beach Festival is to showcase to the world the incredible experience the beach town has to offer,” said Sandip Patel, the director at DFB

He said that the aim is to revive the tourism industry in Kenya in general and show the very best of Kenyan beaches as a destination.

“The event will inject over Ksh309 million ($3 million) to the local economy in the one month because we expect all hotels to be fully booked and all other indirect businesses will benefit as well,” he said.

Among activities during the festival are water sports, kite surfing, kids club adventure and air sports exhibitions.

The organizers say the event will also seek to promote international, regional and local talents by incorporating entertainment programmes.

“We are really also asking for domestic tourists to come down to Diani and witness this colourful event during the December holiday. There is no need of going to Zanzibar while Diani has a lot to offer,” said Gary Lincoln-Hope of the Sky Dive Diani.

The event venue will include vast restaurants offering international cuisine, Christmas shopping villages, bars, lounges, pool retreat and VIP areas.

Among the countries the guests will come from are Britain, France, Dubai, Germany, Russia, Spain, South Africa, Australia among others.

The festival is supported by Hennessy.
