Dilemma for Governor Munya over ownership of PNU

Dilemma for Governor Munya over ownership of PNU

Legislators from the Meru community have lashed out at Governor Peter Munya over his defection from APK to PNU.

Led by Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi, Igembe South MP Mithika Linturi, Meru Women Representative Florence Kajuju, Imenti North MP Rahim Dawood and an aspirant Edward Mugambi, the leaders said Munya’s defection to PNU is null and avoid since the party already belongs to Jubilee.

Speaking in MCK Church in Kirogine Imenti Central Sub County, Kiraitu said that PNU is among the 13 parties, which will join Jubilee and so Munya is welcome to Jubilee through PNU.

He added that there will be no party like PNU in the 2017 General Election and the only party that will be available during that time is the Jubilee Party.

Mithika said that Munya’s political vehicle would not be a walk in the park, as within Jubilee Kenyans will be united better. He termed the governor’s decision as selfish and will be detrimental to his political ambitions.

He supported the merging of parties into one saying this will go a long way to unite the country.

Munya ruffled feathers last week after he announced that he would quit APK and run on a PNU ticket. He has in the past claimed that the newly formed Jubilee Party is being used by Deputy President William Ruto as his party for 2022 presidential elections.

The recently amended Political Parties Act allows elected leaders to defect to other parties without necessitating a by-election.
