Disband IEBC in three months Kalonzo Musyoka

Wiper Party leader Kalozo Musyoka has called for the disbandment of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in the next three months, saying that the electoral body cannot be trusted with the 2017 polls.

Kalonzo, who also serves Coalitions for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) co-principle, said the move should be expedited, since the IEBC has bungled previous polls.

“Jubilee should not sabotage free and fair elections. The IEBC should pack and go home, we need electoral reforms for free and fair elections,” stated Kalonzo.

Speaking during CORD’S ‘State of the Nation’ address on Saturday, Kalonzo claimed that there is no ethnic inclusion in Jubilee’s government, with 2 tribes enjoying 46 percent of jobs.

“Jubilee has failed to unite Kenyans yet they were elected on a unity platform,” stated Kalonzo.

Kalonzo also touched on teachers’ issues.

“Teachers are demoralized lot; mistrust and acrimony exists between teachers and the administration. No wonder cheating is at all-time high. Massive cheating was teachers’ punishment to the Jubilee administration,” claimed Kalonzo.

His sentiments were echoed by Cord Co- Principal and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula. The presidential hopeful condemned the government for not dealing with rising insecurity and terrorism in the country.

According to Wetangula, Jubilee has scored a D+ on security and territorial integrity.

“The President was reporting progress and not results in the security sector. Military hardware, housing and recruitment of police officers are just processes,” said Wetangula.

Led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, the opposition leaders criticized Jubilee’s leadership, saying the government has failed to deliver on campaign promises – such as double digit economic growth and laptops for pupils.

“It’s plain for all to see that Annual economic growth at 5.4% in 2013, 5.2% in 2014 and 5.7% in 2015 is well below the nation’s overarching economic target. We are nowhere near the double-digit growth that Jubilee promised,” Odinga said.

He also cited the high cost of living – an issue that Kenyans highlighted as one of their top concerns in the recently released Infotrak survey.

“Since 2013, everything that can go bad went bad. The cost of living escalated within the first three months and basic commodity prices shot up. VAT charges increased,” stated Odinga.
