Disband Sony Sugar Companys board, farmers tell Uhuru

Sugarcane farmers in Migori County have appealed to President Kenyatta to disband the current Sony Sugar company Board of Managers, claiming that the body has failed to deliver to farmers.

The disgruntled farmers said that the Board must been removed at once as they are misappropriating the company’s finances and driving it to the ground.

Mr.Jacob Okello, a farmer and a contractor with Sony Sugar Company, complained that the crushing rate of the machine is still wanting and the Board has done nothing despite them raising concern.

He said as farmers they are not happy with the leadership of Company Board Chairman Ambrose Weda, saying that they have not seen improvements since he took office.

His sentiment was echoed by Federation of Sugarcane Farmers Secretary General Awendo branch, Mr.Omollo Odondi. He also accused the Sony Sugar’s Board Chair of mismanaging the company, adding that he has a poor working relationship with the farmers.

Mr.Omollo added that they demand that the board explain to farmers why they are taking a lot of money inform of sitting allowances for fruitless deliberations as farmers continue to suffer.

Once source stated that members of the boardhave each taken home Ksh80,000 in sitting allowances, after having just two sittings a week.

Efforts by Citizen Digital to contact Sony sugar Managing Director Jane Pamela have been fruitless.
