Divers recover bodies of twins who drowned in the Indian Ocean

A family in Gasi, Kwale country, is mourning the loss of their twin sons, who drowned in the Indian Ocean on Monday.

Solomon and Kennedy Gatindu, twins, were looking forward to starting university after scoring grade C+ in the recently completed Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

The two were reportedly swept by strong waves as they enjoyed an aftenoon at the beach in Gasi.

According to their father, Samuel Gatindu, the two had just left the family farm where they had been working to spend the afternoon at the beach.

“Tulikua nao shambani kama saa tisa wakatoka baada nikambiwa wamezama baharini na hawakurudi tena,” Samuel Gatindu, the twins father said.

The two bodies were discovered fifteen hours after the incident by government divers from Kwale county.

The fact that the incident occurred late at night complicated the rescue efforts.

Visitors to the area have been advised to be cautious in order to avoid similar incidents.

“Tunataka watu wanapokua tembea Bahari waje na mtu anauzoefu na maji Kwa Sababu tumeona hata wavuvi hufa na wao ni magwiji,” Msambweni sub-county administrator Mwanakombo Kilalo said.

According to one of the divers, the twins entered the water while the tide was out and were unable to swim out due to the rapid increase in water volume.
