Division of Revenue Bill Divides House

A heated session is expected in the National Assembly this afternoon when Members of Parliament debate on the Division of Revenue Bill that has caused divisions among MPs, Senators and Governors.

The main bone of contention has been a proposed increase of funds to counties from 284 billion to 291 billion shillings, with a section of MPs threatening to reject the bill to be tabled by the Mutava Musyimi led Parliamentary Budget Committee.

Some MPs have also proposed budget cuts for the judiciary and foreign affairs ministry, a move nominated MP Isaac Mwaura says the opposition, CORD supports.

An additional 3.3 billion shillings was arrived at by a Musyimi led mediation committee of senators and MPs after MPs rejected a proposed 7.4 billion addition by senators and Treasury CS Henry Rotich has warned the row could adversely affect national budget.
