Isiolo County residents threaten to boycott voter registration

A group of residents from Isiolo County have threatened to boycott the voter registration exercise saying the county government has neglected their needs.

The residents claim that Ksh90 million allocated to them by the county government in the last three financial years could not be accounted for, and called on the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) to investigate the matter.

People Living with Disabilities (PLWD), who are part of the group, decried the failure by the county government to cater for their very basic needs like water, saying the central government used to do so before the dispensation of the new constitution.

The chairman of PLWD, Mr Adan Halakhe, expressed disappointment that only T-shirts provided during the Desert Wheel Chair race held in the county last year could be accounted for, out of the more than Ksh8million budgeted for the group.

An Isiolo MCA Mr Hassan Shano lamented that efforts have been made to budget for the groups but the money is misappropriated by few individuals in the county executive.
