Do not trivialize serious matters, leaders told

Political leaders have been urged to shun unconstructive debates and focus on development.

Laikipia County Speaker Patrick Mariru, Rumuruti Ward MCA Joseph Suge and his Marment Ward counterpart Francis Mukuria, Human rights activist Ndung’u wa Mwangi and prominent businessman Mururi King’ori, the leaders called for sobriety on discussing serious issues affecting Kenyans instead of trivializing the issues.

The leaders observed that too much attention has been given to politics whereas Kenyans continue to suffer due to prolonged food shortage, insecurity, and poor infrastructure among other issues.

They called on Kenyans to continue praying for Deputy President William Ruto and journalist Joshua Sang so that the cases they are facing at the Hague-based International Criminal Court end.

The leaders were speaking at St. Augustine Catholic Church – Muhotetu in Laikipia County on Sunday.

Speaker Patrick Mariru noted that some politicians were preaching empty rhetoric and mudslinging others noting that Kenyans were interested in debates aimed at addressing critical issues affecting them.

Businessman Mururi King’ori and Rumuruti Ward MCA Joseph Suge said that Laikipia County has in the past experienced cases of violence and called on leaders to observe sobriety in the ICC debate and remain united.

Suge accused a section of politicians of attempting to frustrate the government’s development agenda and called on Kenyans to shun such debate and support progressive debates.

Human Rights activist Ndung’u wa Mwangi observed that most parts of the country, especially Laikipia County, continue to experience challenges of food shortage and insecurity occasioned by drought and perennial human-wildlife conflict adding that it was time leaders shift focus to such issues.

He said it was evident that Deputy President Ruto’s case at the ICC will collapse challenging Kenyans to leave the debate to those involved so that they can focus issues at their doorstep.
