Do special audit on Eurobond saga- Mudavadi

Amani National Congress (ANC) Party leader Musalia Mudavadi has appealed to the Jubilee government to give the Auditor General time to do special audit regarding the Eurobond saga.

Mudavadi said the report from the Auditor general will solve the mystery surrounding the issue.

He said according to the constitution, it is only the auditor general who is allowed to scrutinize account on how the government received and used money adding that the report will now lay basis for an informed debate.

Addressing council of Elders at St Monicah Primary school Butunyi in Butula Sub County, Mudavavi said the auditor general is the only person who will pin point where the problem regarding how the Eurobond money balance sheet.

The party leader, who is on a three-day tour in Busia county to popularize his party ahead of 2017 general election, asked residents to vote for him.

Mudavadi said the aim of the tour is to meet opinion leaders, civic societies, and elders to lay strategies and strengthen the party ahead of 2017 general election.

On Sunday, Mudavadi asked for a public audit on the Eurobond transactions as leaders continued to pile pressure on Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich to make the details of the Eurobond transactions public.

Speaking at Kariobangi South, Mudavadi said that the audit should be done for the purposes of transparency and accountability.

“What they (opposition leaders) are doing is just to sabotage the economy by scaring away investors but we want to tell them that they will not succeed,” said Ruto on Saturday.

More than 50 MPs, led by National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale, told off the opposition leaders accusing them of seeking cheap publicity on the Eurobond issue.

“The opposition leaders are not sincere in what they are pursuing. They just want to sabotage the economy of this country,” said Duale.

Duale further stated that the government’s participation in the Eurobond issue was to ensure the local interest rates were reduced.

He took issue with the manner in which the Coalition of Reforms and Democracy (CORD) leader Raila Odinga was engaging in propaganda about the Eurobond proceeds in the pretext that he would gain political mileage.

In a statement to newsrooms, Sonko said the legislators should allow relevant anti-graft agencies to investigate allegations of missing Eurobond funds instead of casting aspersions on the ODM leader’s allegations.

“We should let the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations among other authorities act on dossiers by opposition leaders, members of the civil society and the general public.”

“I wish to challenge my fellow Jubilee legislators not to rush in condemning and demonizing Cord leader Raila Odinga, but to allow due process of law to take its due course,” he said.
