Doctor caught red-handed stealing hospital drugs

A doctor is being detained at Uriri police station in Migori County, after being caught red-handed trying to steal hospital medication on Friday night.

The doctor, who is in charge of Uriri health center, was allegedly caught trying to ferry the drugs over the hospital fence.

After he was busted, the doctor, identified only as Mogire, claimed he was answering to an order from a nearby hospital, Kamsake, claiming that the health center had run out of drugs.

A doctor in charge of Kamsake hospital has, however, denied giving any order of drugs to the doctor.

“The man was caught trying to ferry anti-malarials and some antibiotics over the fence at 8pm on Friday night. He was loading them on a motorcycle. However I called the doctor in charge at Kamsake, she said she had not given any order on the drugs,” said the county Chief Health officer, Dr. Dalmas Oyugi.

According to Dr. Oyugi, the hospital drugs were purportedly being transported to Tanzania.

The drugs were worth Ksh.10, 000.
