Doctors slowly returning to work after sacking threats

Doctors from across the country have begun trickling back to work in several public hospitals including Makueni, Machakos, Nyandarua, Baringo, Lamu and Eldoret after a crippling 95-day strike.

Counties have also begun firing the defiant doctors after an ultimatum issued by the National and County Governments expired.

Kenyatta National Hospital has already sacked 12 doctors.

Nairobi County Health Executive Committee Member, Bernard Muiya, on Thursday, March 9 said they have already issued over 100 show cause letters to the medics and they will be fired by Monday if they do not resume duty.

In Machakos, Governor Alfred Mutua gave doctors until Thursday to resume duty or be fired.

In Kirinyaga Governor, Joseph Ndathi, says he will sack striking doctors on Monday if they do not resume duty.
