Doctors threaten another strike over pay, CBA

Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has threatened another medics’ strike if the government fails to pay doctors their dues for the 100 days they were on strike.

KMPDU Secretary General, Dr. Ouma Oluga, said the government has only 16 days to pay the doctors their dues and sign the March 2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) as the deadline lapsed Saturday, May 27, 2017.

Dr. Oluga said the negotiation process in the implementation of the CBA has been painfully slow and urges the government to complete the process soon in the interest of public.

Oluga also objected the government’s move to employ doctors from Cuba saying Kenya has 1,400 doctors waiting to be employed.

He, however, accused some officers from the Ministry of Health of frustrating doctors saying some doctors have not been paid their dues for the past five months.
