Don’t back down for anyone, Raila warned ahead of 2017 polls

ODM party officials in Ugunja constituency have announced that they will not allow Coalitions for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) leader Raila Odinga to shelve his presidential ambition in 2017.

The officials, led by ODM Ugunja branch chairman Mr. Joseph Otieno Awange, warned the Opposition leader against shelving his presidential ambition in 2017, saying that the next General Election is Raila’s best bet at the top seat.

According to the officials, the Opposition is warming up to the formation of a National Super Alliance (NASA), noting that some individuals were looking at this as an opportunity to seek for Raila’s support as they vie for presidency.

Citing the role that Raila played in fighting for democracy in the country, the officials argued that he is the most suitable person to carry the Opposition’s flag come 2017.

Awange, who was speaking during a meeting in Ugunja, warned of an unspecified action should Raila decide to back out of the race in favour of another candidate.

Exuding confidence that a Raila-led team will best President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party in the polls, the Chairman said that NASA’s flag-bearer should be selected in a free and fair manner.

He further cautioned local politicians against engaging in violent campaigns during the election period, instead urging them to embrace tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
