Don’t change exam centres for KCPE candidates, Garissa leaders to KNEC

Two leaders from Garissa County have urged the Kenya National examination council (KNEC) to make sure that students sit for their national exams in their respective centers.

Addressing the press after a fund raiser, Lagdera Member of Parliament Mohamed Shidiye and Dadaab MP Mohammed Dahiye asked the exam body not to move students to other centers.

Shidiye urged KNEC to let the students do the exams from their designated areas where they were registered.

“Some centers, especially at the border, have already been closed by the government and the students have been told they will be moved to other centers to sit for their exams elsewhere.”

He said that the move would only serve as a disadvantage to the students, in terms of infrastructure and insecurity.

He added: “When the Ministry moves students, they will require shelter, food and transport. Additionally, they are being moved to a place where their parents are not available this will automatically destabilise them,” he said.

On his part, MP Dahiye urged the government to deal with the Al Shabaab menace so that such inconveniences never arise again in the future.

Dahiye added that it was time mobile service providers install boosters in remote, so that locals can communicate in the event of Al Shabaab attacks.

The legislator also urged the government to invest in security vehicles fitted with tracking devices as this would ensure that the Government is able to hunt down militants.
