Don’t influence voters on who to vote for, Munya tells Uhuru

Meru Governor Peter Munya has urged President Uhuru Kenyatta not to influence voters, especially from Meru County, to vote for candidates he is supporting in 2017.

Speaking at Mikinduri in Tigania East Sub County during the Co-operatives day, Munya said that Mt Kenya East region could also produce a president, adding that he was a good example of the region’s leaders having been elected as Council of Governors chairman twice.

Munya however indicated that he would be supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta in his re-election in 2017.

He further thanked the president for accenting to the Bill that enables political parties to merge, adding that he should not force people to join Jubilee Party.

Munya explained that he would soon be launching a political party that he will use as a vehicle to the presidency in 2022.

Munya has in the past expressed displeasure with calls to join the Jubilee Party saying he would not be forced to join any political party.

In February, the Council of Governors chairman walked out of a fundraising meeting attended by Deputy President William Ruto in protest after Jubilee MPs asked him to join the yet to be launched party.

Speaking before Kiraitu Murungi stood to speak, a furious Munya maintained that he would not join the party saying: “I have the right to join any political party I want. No one will coerce me in joining a particular party. Let it be known in 2017 will vie on another party and not JP,” before handing over his donation to Imenti South MP Kathuri Murungi and leaving hurriedly amid jeering from a section of the public.
