Dont be too proud to ask for help from govt, Senator Elachi tells governors

Nominated Senator Beatrice Elachi on Saturday urged governors to work hand in hand with the central government despite their political affiliations, after Kakamega General Hospital came under the spotlight last week when patients were seen sleeping on the floor and on pieces of carton for lack of beds and mattresses.

The senator reiterated that working with the current national leaders does not necessarily mean one is defecting from their political party.

“It’s for the good of the people. Let those who voted for you at least enjoy the benefits of devolution and not suffer because you are too egocentric,” she said.

Elachi also ruled out the possibility of having a president from the Western Region in the next General Election, asserting that Uhuru Kenyatta will remain on the top seat.

“Those who are saying they want to lead the country next year should instead start working on a 2022 strategy, and those from the Luhya community should work as one,” she added.

She also condemned the management of Kakamega Forest, saying the leaders in office are encouraging depletion of the forest by allowing unlicensed charcoal burning, tree cutting among other activities.

Her sentiments were backed by the local area Member of County Assembly (MCA) of Isukha Central Richard Muchesia who also felt the management of the forest is not competent. The leaders now want a new officer to replace the incumbent.

The leaders were speaking at Lugala Grounds in Shunyalu Constituency where they had gone to initiate a training program for boda boda operators who will receive driving licenses and other relevant documents.

Ten youths were also considered for training in the assembly of motorbike parts by a motorbike firm.
