Don’t use live bullets on protesters, Atwoli advises

Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli has asked the police to use minimal force when dealing with protesters in various parts of the country.

The trade union boss said that most of the protesters are unarmed and police should refrain from using live bullets.

He also warned politicians against inciting the public since Kenyans voted peacefully, noting that poll losers should use legal channels to challenge the outcome of the elections.

“Kenyans voted peacefully and the election was not bungled as alleged by NASA leaders. Therefore the government’s priority should be uniting the country,” Atwoli said.

The COTU boss said that violence after every election doesn’t board well for Kenya as a country and urged Jubilee Party and NASA to find an amicable solution to end the chaos.

“I am not saying Raila should concede. He has his constitutional rights though if I was Uhuru, I would make him my adviser and give him a job befitting his status as a national leader. He is an elder who can make informed decisions,” COTU leader advised.

Protests

Police have moved to contain protests that erupted in different parts of the country, including Mathare and Kibra in Nairobi County and Kondele and Nyalenda in Kisumu County following the announcement of the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta by IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati on Friday August 11.
