Doubts emerge over shooting of half-naked couple in Nairobi

The family of the woman who was shot dead at City Park, Nairobi are demanding to be told the real reason behind her death.

Doubts have also emerged over whether she was romantically involved with Benard Chege, the man who survived the horrific shooting incident.

“We want the man who purportedly alerted the police about the vehicle to come forward and say exactly why he alerted the cops about a car parked at a public place,” Chris Waiyaki, the deceased’s brother, told Citizen Digital.

He wondered why only three bullet holes were seen on the back door of the vehicle yet more than 10 rounds of ammunition were apparently used.

According to Waiyaki, they only learnt of the death of Janet Wangui Waiyaki from news reports and social media.

At City Mortuary on Tuesday, he and one other family member viewed her body which had one bullet wound on the shoulder.

Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor, who conducted the autopsy, said the victim was shot twice; on her left shoulder and back.

He stated that the second bullet passed through the liver, diaphragm and lodged itself on her right lung.

“She passed away due to excessive internal bleeding,” he added.

However, the family said they will wait for their private pathologist to confirm the cause of death.
