Dozens Killed, Scores Trapped After Landslide in India

The Wednesday morning landslide hit the village of Malin near the city of Pune while people were still asleep.

7 teams of 42 rescue workers are now conducting operations to try and save the people who are feared to be trapped in the mud and debris.

The teams are reported to have worked through the night but the heavy rains were hampering their efforts.

The Indian Express Newspaper said 10 people have been rescued in the operation.

Among those rescued was a 25 year old woman and her six months baby who were found trapped in their house under a thatched roof.

India Prime Minister Narendra  Modi described the loss of lives resulting from the land slide as “saddening”.

Heavy rains, mud and poor communication in the remote village continue to be a challenge to rescue teams on the ground.

Landslides are common in some parts India during the monsoon which runs from June to September
